Pre-Paid Legal…Still A Good Opportunity Or A Company Who’s Time Has Come And Gone?
Pre-Paid Legal is an MLM company that’s been around for almost 40 years and is also listed on the New York Stock Exchange, a fact no doubt mentioned to you already if you are being prospected or recruited by a Pre-Paid Legal representative.
While it is true that a New York Stock Exchange listing has historically been a globally recognized signal of strength and leadership, we know from recent experiences that not all companies listed on the NYSE are strong OR have good leadership!
Think Enron, AIG, General Motors, Chrysler…and the list goes on and on! Are these all good solid companies with strong leadership? Ahhhh, no! So personally, I no longer give much credence to a NYSE listing.
Strength And Leadership
But more to the point of this article is not the question as to whether or not Pre-Paid Legal is a strong company with good leadership, to which I would have to say yes on both counts, but is it still a good MLM Business Opportunity for someone looking at Pre-Paid maybe for the first time as a network marketing home-based business?
The really important question you may need to be asking yourself is twofold:
“If I become a PrePaid Legal Rep, can I do it and can I make any money?”
Contrary to what anyone tells you, not everyone can do Pre-Paid Legal! You’re better positioned for success in Pre-Paid if you have some background in sales & marketing. An insurance sales or similar background will give you an advantage in marketing the membership program, especially in their group or small business sales. Without sales & marketing experience, building a team of independent sales reps is the only other way to go!
While Pre-Paid talks about becoming a household word and one day everyone will own a Pre-Paid Legal plan, the company is actually a long, long way from either one of those much talked about potentialities!
Some due diligence will reveal that both membership sales and new associate enrollments were both down slightly at years end, 2008, according to Yahoo Finance. And PPL’s membership numbers have hovered around the 1.5 to 1.6 million members for the last several years, suggesting that it may take another several years to hit that pivotal “tipping point” where Pre-Paid Legal becomes a household name and its membership becomes the property of literally millions of American households.
Until then, Pre-Paid Legal’s membership plan remains a viable product in the marketplace for anyone with enough stick-to-it-ive-ness to stay the course until they either build a large Network Marketing organization or sell enough memberships to create that sought after MLM residual income!
I believe Pre-Paid Legal is a difficult sell because most Americans have lived a significant part of their lives without needing an attorney and fail to see the value of paying a monthly fee for an insurance-like product that provides them legal assistance should the need ever arise.
So the question remains, Is Pre-Paid Legal A Good Opportunity Or An MLM Company Whose Time Has Come And Gone?
I like Pre-Paid Legal and think it’s a good company with a good MLM Business Opportunity for those people who possess the qualities I mentioned above.
I will point out however, that there are other MLM Business Opportunities out there that, in my opinion, are more fun to do and have better, more lucrative and generous compensation plans than that of Pre-Paid Legal!
